General help:

How am I notified about a move made by my opponent?
In your profile you can indicate how often you want to receive emails when your opponent has moved. This is normally set to 1 day. This means that at the end of a day (European Time) you will get an email if it is your turn in one of your games. If you however were online in the meantime and checked it yourself, you will not get an email notification.
Why can't I offer a draw?
In some games you cannot offer a draw. Otherwise, you first have to move. After moving click on 'Offer draw' instead of 'Submit move'.
How do I start a game at YourturnMyturn.com?
There are several possiblities:
  • You can take a look in the Waiting room to see if anybody has posted a game there.
  • If you want to start a new game, click New game in the left menu. Choose the game you want to play and fill in the name of your opponent. If you leave the name of your opponent blank, you will post a game in the waiting room. After that, click on start game, choose some options if needed and click on start game again.
  • To find an opponent via Users, click on his/her name and then on more details. On the top right you can invite him/her for a game.
  • Or join an open Tournament against strangers.

  • The time to move of my opponent is negative. How come?
Your opponent is probably on holiday. If you see a  behind the name of your opponent, he or she is on holiday, so they will not lose if their time to move is negative.
What are friends and how do I make somebody my friend?
Friends are players at YourturnMyturn.com with whom you play often. You can add them to your friends. You can find them in your overview and see if they are online. You can add a friend by going to the user page of somebody and click on Add to your friends. You can remove them by clicking on Delete from friends. You can have a maximum of 40 friends.
How many games can I play?
You can play 10 normal concurrent games and participate in 3 tournaments at YourturnMyturn.com. You can save a maximum of 10 games as well. If you are a vip, you can play more games and tournaments and you have unlimited moves per day.
    Is playing at YourturnMyturn.com free?
Yes it is, at a maximum of 10 concurrent games and 3 concurrent tournaments. You receive a supply of 50 moves a day. But you can save moves up to 150 moves.
What happens if there is no remaining time to move?
If somebody has no more time to move, they lose the game. Every day at 04:08 CET we determine what games have no more time remaining. If a player is on holiday, they will not lose those games. Because we calculate this once a day, it can happen that during a day somebody's time to move reaches -1.
Why can't I see smilies in my message
There are a maximum of 5 smilies per message. If you add more, you will see only codes for the smilies.
Why do I have to keep logging in?
That's probably because you do not accept cookies. For keeping track of players we use cookies. For Internet Explorer, go to Tools -> Internet options -> Privacy, set the slider to medium or add www.yourturnmyturn.com to your trusted websites. For more info on IE, see Microsoft.
What do the stars, circles and other icons mean?
  • 1 star  means that a player is a vip, 2 stars mean supervip and 3 stars means megavip. If a picture has a dark red colour, it means he/she is online, if it is light () than that player is offline.
For more info on vips, see http://www.yourturnmyturn.com/vip.php.
  • 2 circles  mean that a player is an admin and 3 circles mean superadmin. See http://www.yourturnmyturn.com/tipstricks.php
  • A  means that a normal player is online and a parasol  behind somebody's name means that a player is on holiday.

  • What do I do if somebody calls me names or harasses me?
If this happens, please contact us via our contact form. Let us know the username of that person. If this happens in a game, please do not delete it so we can check it. If we find that behaviour not acceptable, we will warn that player. If he repeats his behaviour, he can be banned.
You can ignore that person in the future by going to his user profile and clicking on add to ignore list. He cannot invite you to more games and cannot send you private messages.
    What is RSS?
You can find everything about RSS here.
Why can't I play the practice games or analyze games?
To make sure these applets work, you have to install java. Click here.
How do I solve Bad Request?
    If you get the following:

Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.
OR: The HTTP request is too long.
Solution: delete cookies and temporary files, go to Tools -> Internet Options and then click on Delete Cookies and Delete Files.
It does not work, what now?

  • Accept cookies, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy and set the slider to medium or add www.yourturnmyturn.com to your trusted websites.

  • I forgot my password. How do I get it?
If you have lost your password, click on Forgot your password. We will send you a new one. If you have a hotmail account, please look in your folder with unsolicited email. You can change your password to your liking by going to your profile.
My new password isn't working. How do I solve that?
A browser sometimes remembers your old password. You can delete those old passwords by going to Tools -> Internet Options -> Content -> Auto complete and then deleting passwords.
How do I make a screenshot?
First find the Print Screen button on the top right of your keyboard (Prt Scr). By pressing the keys Ctrl (control) and Print Screen (Prt Scr) at the same time, you make a screenshot of the whole screen (with Alt + Prt Scr you only make a screenshot of the active window). You can use your screenshot by going to a paint program, i.e. Paint. In Paint find the option paste in the Edit menu. You can use Ctrl + v as well. After that you can save your image as a JPG.
How does the referral system work?
We have a referral system in place. If you lead new players to our site and they register and become vip, you earn points. Your personal referral link is available via 'My overview'. With those points you can buy a vip membership.

You earn 10 points for a vip, 20 for a supervip and 30 for a megavip. This is only the case when a person becomes a vip for the first time. How many referrers and points you have is visible in your profile. You can use those points for your own vip membership: 10 points is 1 month of vip, 20 points is 1 month of supervip and 30 points is 1 month of megavip.

If you are extremely successful and have more then 360 points we will pay out the amount above 360 points. We only pay out to a paypal account! Every point is worth 10 eurocent.

If we detect any fraud or abuse of our system all your points will be deleted and you will get banned from the site.

We have developed some banners as well. You can use those on your own website and link to your referrer link. Go to www.yourturnmyturn.com/banners.php. If you are logged in and click on one of these banners, you will get the HTML code for a banner with a hyperlink to the registration page with your referral link.

    Holiday help:

What do I have to do if I am going on holiday?
If you are going on a holiday or if you are not able to play for a couple of days, go to profile and on the bottom click on Request your holiday. During your holiday your time to move will decrease, but you will not lose a game. You have 30 days at YourturnMyturn.com to use as holiday.

Attention: Your time to move will keep on decreasing during your holiday, so make sure the day after your holiday you move in all your games.
When do I get a new supply of holiday days?
Every year at June 1, you will get a new supply of 30 holiday days (you will never have more then 30!).

    Ratings help:

    What rating formula is used?
The rating formula is based on that of the International Email Chess Group (IECG). See the IECG site. That formula is based on the formula of the ICCF. We have chosen to use the same rating rules for all games!
What rating do I start with?
You start with a provisional rating of 1500.
Why is my rating something else then I expect?
If you have played less than 15 games of a particular game, you have a provisional rating (indicated with a *). This means your rating can fluctuate a lot and can for example go down if you win (against somebody with a lower rating) or go up if you lose (against somebody with a higher rating). It also can mean your rating will not change if you win or lose. If you have a final rating those 'strange' fluctuations will not appear anymore.
Why don't I appear in the (final) rating list?
There can be 2 reasons for this:
    1. You didn't finish 15 games of that particular game, so you only have a provisional rating. Once you have completed 15 games, you will have a final rating and appear in the rating list.
    2. You have to be active in a particular game to keep your place in the rating list. If you have not completed a game in 2 months, your rating becomes inactive. You will keep your rating and once you've completed a game, you will appear in the rating list again.

How is the average rating calculated?
We add all final ratings and for each provisional rating we add 1500. Then we divide it by the total number of games.

    Tournaments help:

    When does a tournament start?
A tournament starts automatically when there are 28 participants.
    What does TPR mean?
TPR maens Tournament Perfomance Rating, so it is a kind of rating based on all your results within one tournament. It is calculated based on the ratings of your opponents at the beginning of a tournament. You can calculate TPR at the tips and tricks page.
How are the players being divided over the groups?
This is based on the current rating of a player. The player with the highest rating will be placed in group 1. The player thereafter in group 2, until group 4. Then it goes from group 4 to 1, etc. Every group is about the same strength.
How are the players divided over the knockout rounds?
    According to:

Quarter final 1: group 1 winner against number 2, group 4
Quarter final 2: group 3 winner against number 2, group 2
Quarter final 3: group 4 winner against number 2, group 3
Quarter final 4: group 2 winner against number 2, group 1

Semi final 1: quarter final 1 winner against quarter final 2 winner
Semi final 2: quarter final 3 winner against quarter final 4 winner

Final: semi final 1 winner against semi final 2 winner

Why does a tournament end when I cannot go to the next round?
When you have played all your group games in a tournament and you are not ranked number 1 or 2, the tournament will automatically end for you. This is calculated once a day at 04:08 (CET).
How do I report a tournament that can go to the next round?
All tournaments automatically go to the next round if all games are finished. For tournaments in the group phase we can manually push tournaments to the next round if all numbers 1 and 2 are known. You can report these tournaments in the forum with the appropriate topic.

I am a vip, how do I become a super or mega vip?

How do I prolong my vip status?
